METHODOLOGY AT THE SERVICE OF EACH CLIENT

Sampling and Taxonomic Analysis of the Biological Quality Elements in Aquatic Ecosystems: macroinvertabrates, benthon, macrophytes, phytobenthos (benthic diatoms), ichthyofauna, phyto- and zooplankton, invasive species.

TAXUS has specialised personnel, high quality optical microscopy and image analysis systems that allow the measurement of organisms and taxonomic identification of different species in aquatic ecosystems.

Some of our services are:

  • Taxonomic analysis of marine and continental phytoplankton and zooplankton using optical microscopy techniques.
  • Study of phytoplankton composition and abundance (Uthermöl method).
  • Identification and monitoring of toxic and/or harmful phytoplanktons species: qualitative and quantitative analysis of cyanobacteria (taxonomic determination, cell density and biovolume).
  • Detection and monitoring of Harmful Algal Blooms (HAB).
  • Calculations of Biovolume (biomass) of phytoplanktonic and zooplanktonic species using imagery analysis.
  • Bioindicator and invasive species (zebra mussel, Asian clam, etc.) identification and abundance.
  • Identification of marine benthic macroinvertebrates (both hard and soft substrates) and characterization and identification of benthic communities.
  • Identification of macrophytes from inland aquatic systems.
  • Taxonomic determination of marine macroalgae.
  • Macroalgal biomass analysis.
  • Bioindicators detection and identification.
