Last night we lived one of those moments that mark the history of a company. TAXUS Medio Ambiente was recognized as the “Most Sustainable Company” at the second edition of the “Banco Sabadell Company of the Year” awards of La Nueva España, held at the Hotel de La Reconquista in Oviedo.
We are especially excited to share it in our own space, this blog, where we usually talk about projects, science and territory… and today, for once, we talk about us.
What this award means for TAXUS
When we heard our name in the Covadonga hall, we experienced it as a recognition of something that has been part of our DNA since the beginning: putting the environment at the center of our decisions.
In the words of our director, Javier Granero: “We carry the surname of sustainability with great honor. It is not a pretty label to put on a report: it is the way we work every day. From Oviedo and with a young, multidisciplinary team that is very close to the ground, we accompany companies and administrations so that their decisions have a solid technical-environmental basis and, above all, a real positive impact on the territory.
This award comes at a time when we feel that many of the things we have been doing for years – restoration plans, environmental diagnostics, support for industrial projects, innovative analysis tools – are beginning to be seen for what they are: investment in the future.

If there is one phrase that sums up how we understand our work, it is this one, which Javier shared at the gala: “We do not work for today, but for the future of those who come after us”.
At TAXUS we fully identify with this idea. Every biodiversity inventory, every impact modeling, every report we write, we do it thinking that someone -in ten, twenty or thirty years- will continue to enjoy healthy rivers, functional forests and living landscapes.
There was also a very special moment when Javier recalled that one of our historical clients is Astilleros Gondán, awarded precisely as “Company of the Year”. For us it is a good example of the relationship that we like to build with the companies we work with: “Companies learn a lot from our customers, and we have learned a lot from Gondán”.
We see it in our day-to-day business: sustainability is built on collaboration, listening, learning and finding solutions that work for both the business and the environment.
An evening to celebrate the Asturian company
Beyond our award, the gala was a celebration of the diversity and strength of the Asturian business fabric. We shared the night and the stage with companies and projects from very different sectors -industry, agribusiness, defense, hospitality or social economy, among others- that demonstrate that in Asturias great things can be done and very well done.
We would like to explicitly congratulate the award-winning companies and individuals, with whom we are very proud to have shared this edition:
- Astilleros Gondán, recognized as “Company of the year”.
- Asturfeito, awarded as “Most International Company”.
- Escribano Mechanical & Engineering (EM&E), as “Most Innovative Company”.
- Asturmadi, whose founding couple, Alfredo Suárez and Flor Álvarez, received the “Entrepreneurs of the Year” award.
- ILAS – Reny Picot, headed by Francisco Rodríguez, distinguished for its “Best Business Trajectory”.
- Sidra Trabanco, recognized as a “Family Company”.
- Finca El Cabillón, linked to the Edes Foundation, was awarded for the project with the “greatest social impact”.
- Cantábrica Agricultura Urbana, distinguished as “Start-up of the year”.
Sharing the stage with all of them, from an environmental consulting firm from Oviedo like ours, reinforces an idea that we repeat many times within the team: Asturias has talent, has projects and has a great future if we continue working together.
We do not want to close this post without thanking La Nueva España and Banco Sabadell for promoting these awards and for choosing a company like ours for the recognition of sustainability. To the jury and the organization of the gala, for the care in every detail. To our clients and collaborators, for pushing us to be better in every project.
And, above all, to our team: young, committed people, eager to do things well and with criteria. This award is yours.
Today we return to the office with the same idea as always, but a little stronger: in TAXUS Environment we want to continue demonstrating that sustainability is not an accessory, but a strategic axis, and that from Asturias can lead environmental projects of first level.
We take with us the title of “Most Sustainable Company”, yes, but, above all, we take with us the responsibility and the illusion of living up to this recognition in everything that comes from now on.
