The transition to renewable energy sources has led to a large increase in the number of wind turbines, which is expected to continue to grow significantly. Bird mortality is one of the most critical environmental impacts of wind energy and therefore limiting its deployment.
TECH-4-BIRDS is an R&D&I project carried out by TAXUS MEDIO AMBIENTE and PXR (Presence XR Solutions) that develops an integrated system that combines cameras and artificial intelligence to identify birds, analyze and predict their flight path and be able to take actions to reduce their mortality in wind farms automatically.
Among the specific objectives of TECH-4-BIRDS are the positioning and identification of birds in flight, the recording and prediction of the 3D/4D tracing of the flight path of each bird for the entire wind farm site and the accounting of the time in the risk zone broken down by wind turbine for each bird entering the wind farm site, with the ultimate goal of reducing bird mortality.
