ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY

Dispersion study of the material deposited in the sea from the dredging project of the Navia estuary channel in order to favor the regeneration of the Navia beach.

A dispersion study has been carried out to analyze the evolution of the sediment dumped in two different locations: the historically used dumping point and a new proposal close to the beach to be regenerated.

The bathymetric records obtained in the field were interpolated using a geographic information system: TIN (Triangulated Irregular Network), a tool that allows the interpolation of spatially distributed data, thus obtaining a three-dimensional digital model of the depths of the area.

The latest generation MIKE 21 FM software was used to develop the hydrodynamic model, which simulates variable flows taking into account the bathymetry, density variations, and external variables that govern the system, such as tides, currents, and meteorological agents, among others. Specifically, sedimentation modeling has determined the shape and intensity of the turbidity plumes, as well as the direction and location of sediment deposits at specific time periods.
